Hobbit\'s Glenn Golf Club

Played here 6-26-14 for the first time in many years, with three friends who had not played the course before. I mention this because it was a bit difficult finding our way around, as routing between holes was not very well marked, In more than one case, we had to ask a passing worker where the next tee box was. Aside from that, this is a great golfing experience.

Conditions were wonderful, with the minor exception of the bunkers, which were pretty firm due to the previous night's rain. Otherwise, attaboy Greens crew!

The layout is excellent: no two holes look alike, the houses are well back from the fairways, and for the most part are screened off by the trees: we never felt they were intrusive. I thought the course gave great vistas off the tees, and to my recollection, there were only about two holes where the landing area (all of which are generously sized - no needles to thread) was not visible from tees. Greens are very large, so it is vital that one knows how far on the green the flag is located, as there may a three-club difference from front to back: I found myself with 70-foot putts a couple of times! An overall fun experience.

The negative: the clubhouse has been under construction for a while, and is just now emerging from "hole-in-the-ground" status: to my untrained eye, it looks about a year away from completion.

In the meantime, everything is being handled out of a temporary facility (a double-wide trailer), and the staff has a positive attitude about the inconvenience. A good group of folks.

We highly recommend "the Glen."

This course is always in great shape. The practice facilities are moderate. The layout is terrific. If you're in the mid Maryland area and can get on this course, it is private, then I would recommend playing here. I was a member here for many years. I moved to Florida and play this course when I visit from there. The course is improved in recent years with new types of grass (Bermuda fairways) and new sand in the bunkers. This course will give you variety, challenge, and enjoyment while you play. Caution: there usually are no cart girls on the course The clubhouse and the snack bar at the turn are being renovated in 2013. Expect a much nicer clubhouse and snacks at the turn during 2014.
